EXHIBITION

The triennial exhibition is open to all artists and designers with no geographical restrictions. It is open to professionals and students, individuals and artist groups. The artist must hold the copyright to his or her work, and the work may not have been created under an academic supervisor. The exhibition will take place from 21 April 2017 to 23 July 2017 at the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design in Tallinn, Estonia (www.etdm.ee).

PARTICIPATION FEE Participation fee is 30 EUR (+ VAT). All artists taking part of the open call will receive one copy of the triennial catalogue.

JURY

The works for the exhibition will be selected by an international five-member jury. The selection of the works is anonymous and the decision will be finalised at the end of October 2016 based on submitted digital images and information uploaded onto the Defol.io platform (http://defol.io/triennaal/2016). The applicants will be notified about the jury’s decision by 21 November 2016. The jury will also award prizes to selected works before the exhibition opens. The decision of the jury is final and cannot be contested.

AWARDS

The exhibition prize fund is 5000 euros. A Grand Prix and two equal second place prizes will be awarded at the triennial. The jury reserves the right to make changes in the awarding of the prizes. The winners will be announced at the exhibition opening on 21 April 2017.

CATALOGUE

The triennial is accompanied by a catalogue, one copy of which will be sent to all artists taking part of the open call.

SEMINAR AND ARTIST TALKS

A seminar entitled “Modes of mediating applied art and design” will take place on 21 April 2017 in Tallinn; the working language will be English. The participating artists will also give talks on 22 April 2017.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

PHASE I – submitting digital materials to the open call DEADLINE: 10 October 2016 The open call will be announced on 15 June 2016 and the application deadline is 10 October 2016 at 23.59.

The 7th Tallinn Applied Art Triennial exhibits works of applied art and design that approach the topics of time, tempo, different notions and explorations of time in any manner in both digital and physical form that have been created not earlier than in 2013.

Each artist may propose an individual work or a series of works (maximum height 3 m and maximum area 4 m2). 1–5 digital photographs of the work or series of works, which will later be used in the exhibition catalogue, must be uploaded to the Defol.io internet platform (http://defol.io/triennaal/2016). The format of the photographs should be jpg, 300 dpi, 210×297 mm or 6300×8700 px (each photograph can be a maximum of 8 MB). The works in the photographs must be photographed in front of a single-colour background using diffused lighting. The photographs should show both a general view and a detail of the work. Please send the photographs only digitally and through the Defol.io platform. Please fill in the entry form in Estonian or English. The artist may add the concept for the work, a short description and an explanation of how the work should be exhibited, using up to 1000 characters (including spaces). The short description should be translated into English, so that the international jury can read it.

Based on provided information the jury will make a decision, which will be then made known to all participants. The artists chosen for the exhibition will be asked to provide additional information.

PHASE II – for artists selected by the jury DEADLINE: 1 March 2017

The deadline for sending works is 1 March 2017. The address for sending the works is Lai 17, 10133 Tallinn, Estonia, Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, key phrase “7th Tallinn Applied Art Triennial 2017”. When sending the works by courier, please add the name of the contact person, Kertu Tuberg and phone number +372 5149497.

Additional information about exhibiting the works, explications and insurance costs for the works should be sent with the works either as printouts or as an e-mail to [email protected]. The work or series of works sent to the exhibition must be identical to the work or series of works selected by the jury. The transportation of the works to Tallinn and the cost of transportation insurance must be covered by the participant. The works must be sent in a secure and protective package. The same package must be re-usable to send the work back to the artist. If these conditions are not fulfilled, the organisers of the triennial reserve the right to charge the artist for the costs of the new packaging material. Sending the works back is at the expense of the organisers. The works will be sent back to the artist at the latest by 31 August 2017. The artist will allow the organisers to use his or her photographs in the exhibition catalogue, triennial’s website and social media channel and in the media for the purpose of marketing the exhibition.

NOTES The internet platform on which to apply to the triennial closes on 10 October 2016 at 23.59 and submitting applications later is not possible.

A professional exhibition architect and the triennial society will arrange the exhibition of the works. Security staff and video surveillance guard the exhibition halls. If under these conditions there is any damage to the works, the triennial society will take responsibility for this and will compensate the artist for the damage in the amount of the insurance sum the artist has submitted when sending the work. The triennial society does not make any additional insurance contracts. The artist him- or herself has the right to insure the works and cover the insurance expenses.
