CATEGORIES

There are three main categories for entering work in the Service Design Award:

  • Commercial

  • Non-profit / public sector

  • Methodology

For the Commercial category, industry sub-categories will be assigned. The jury will create or consolidate categories according to the number of entries. Entries in the Methodology category are for work where the process and tools are demonstrably new or different and more significant than the business result.


SUBMISSION FORMAT

All submissions must be in the form of a report written in English and in A4 or Letter-sized format. Maximum length is five pages and text size 11 points Helvetica / Arial at 1,5 line spacing. If the entry exceeds five pages, then the additional pages will not be considered by the jury.

Additionally, all entrants are required to write a single-page summary of their project and to design a poster, which includes the images required below and the project summary. The poster must be designed in accordance with the template provided. The poster will be used in the exhibition of entered work as well as for promotional purposes.

The report, summary and poster must be uploaded to the entry system. No physical entries are accepted.


REPORT AND SUMMARY

The 5 page report and 1 page summary must be uploaded in pdf format. Maximum single document file size is 15 MB.


POSTER

IMAGES

All entrants must supply five images of the project in JPG format, 300 dpi - high compression quality, 8 in Photoshop, around 80%, in A4 format (210 by 297 millimetres or 8.27 in x 11.7 in). If you include any context-setting images which feature someone else’s work, these images must be labelled. Maximum single document file size is 15 MB


DISQUALIFICATION

Entries submitted to the Award must be honest and comply to the rules. Any entry that is found subsequent to judging or the Award Ceremony to have included false or misleading information may be disqualified and have its Award withdrawn.


RIGHTS OF THE JUDGING PANEL

The judging panel's decision is final. The jury reserves the right not to accept an entry if the rules have not been strictly complied with. The jury has the right to move an entry from one category to another if they think it appropriate.


CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

Where submitted materials contain sensitive or confidential information, that must not be disclosed, then you must clearly label those aspects of your submission that are confidential, as so. The summary poster of the project must in any case be devoid of confidential information.


COPYRIGHT

By submitting written or artistic work each entrant guarantees that approval of the client and or consultant has been obtained and entrants (on behalf on themselves and their clients / consultants) give the organisers as part of the Service Design Network and Service Design Awards the right to reproduce all or part of their entry (except for that labeled confidential) at any time in the future.

The organisers reserve the right to give permission to third parties to publish the whole or any part of submitted material as part of the Award or reporting thereon.


DEADLINE

Entries must be uploaded to the Service Design Award website latest July 26, 2015 at 23:59 GMT.


ENTRY FEE

Early bird entry fee until June 15, 2015

  • The entry fee per individual entry is €150
  • SDN members benefit from a reduced individual entry fee of €90

Entry fee after June 16 - July 26, 2015

  • The entry fee per individual entry is €230
  • SDN members reduced individual entry fee €170

Payment is to be made with credit / debit card on the online entry platform. Submissions can be made as of May 1, 2015 and modified until the closing date of July 26, 2015. A digital receipt for accounting purposes will be sent to the designated email address.


THE SHORTLIST WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2015

Shortlisted work will be exhibited at the Service Design Global Conference as well as receive honourable mention at the award celebration and be published in Touchpoint, the Journal of Service Design.


THE WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE EVENING OF OCTOBER 2, 2015

Four levels of award may be given: shortlist, bronze, silver and gold. The jury has the option of awarding a Grand Prix award, if they deem a project outstanding. The jury has the right to award multiple awards of bronze, silver and gold or none at all.

Diplomas will be awarded for shortlisted work. Trophies for bronze, silver and gold. In addition, shortlisted and winning work recipients will receive a digital badge to use on their websites. Winning work will receive special coverage within Touchpoint, the Journal of Service Design.
